What is community college?

Community colleges, sometimes called junior colleges, are two-year schools that provide affordable postsecondary education as a pathway to a four-year degree or alternative degree.

 

Will going to a community college mean I can’t go to a four-year college?

NO! In fact it often helps.  Cool North Carolina Community College Policy: If you GRADUATE from an NC community college with an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree with at least a 2.0 GPA you are GUARANTEED admission into one of the sixteen UNC four year institutions!!!

 

What is an Associate Degree?

An associate degree is an undergraduate academic degree awarded by community colleges, junior colleges, technical colleges, bachelor’s degree–granting colleges, and universities upon completion of a course of study usually lasting two years.

 

What is a Bachelor’s Degree?

A bachelor’s degree is usually earned for an undergraduate course of study that normally requires four of study. Bachelor’s degrees are not typically available at community colleges.
