North Carolina Independent Scholarships

Betsy Y. Justus NCTA Founders Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a rising female college freshman, re-entry or transfer student, enrolling in an accredited institution of higher learning located in North Carolina. Must qualify for NC resident status for tuition purposes. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must declare a STEM major or demonstrate interest in STEM with a particular focus on technology and engineering.

  • Scholarship Award: $1,000 per year, renewable.

Carolina Food Industry Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a high school senior enrolling for the 2015 fall semester as a college freshman, be a spouse or dependent of a permanent, full-time employee of CFIC retail, wholesale, or supplier member company, be a student who at a minimum is a part-time employee of a CFIC retail, wholesale, or supplier member company in North Carolina.

  • Scholarship Award: $2,500. Scholarships are renewable and recipients can apply in subsequent years.

Crumley Roberts Founders Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Be a graduating high school senior who will be attending a four-year accredited college or university. Have a minimum weighted high school GPA of 3.2 to apply. Must be 18 years of age by September 1, 2015, and scholarship funds will be distributed only after student who has been selected for the receipt of a scholarship has reached 18 years of age. Submit two (2) letters of recommendations from a teacher, counselor, or another adult who is familiar with the applicant’s academic achievements and/or extracurricular activities. Submit a 1,000 word essay on a provided topic.

Crumley Roberts Next Step Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a student enrolled in a North Carolina community college who will be transferring to an accredited 4-year college or university in Fall 2016. Have a minimum community college GPA of 3.2 to apply. Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from a professor, counselor or another adult who is familiar with an applicant’s academic achievements and/or extracurricular activities. Submit a 1,000 word essay on a provided topic.

  • Scholarship Award: $2,500

Dottie Martin Teachers Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Student must plan to teach in North Carolina once their education is completed, presently be in an education program with an established career plan for teaching (high school students or recent high school graduates are not eligible to apply), fully complete a series of background history forms present in the application, provide a recent college or university transcript, three letters of recommendation, and a typed essay which includes: reason for applying, career goals, teaching plans, and reasons why the applicant should receive the Dottie Martin scholarship and the financial burden that would be incurred without the scholarship

Epsilon Sigma Alpha

  • Eligibility Requirements: Must be a student enrolled in an accredited college or university, either as an undergraduate student, or as a current NC teacher seeking additional training. Must be training to work specifically with people with special needs up to age 21, excluding the academically gifted, in an educational setting. Must agree to teach in a North Carolina Public School system for one year after graduation as a teacher of exceptional children. Must include a letter of recommendation, brief essay and a financial aid statement filled out by college financial aid director.

  • Scholarship Award: The amount varies from year to year and multiple recipients may be presented. In recent years, scholarships have ranged from $500 to $2500, and have been awarded to multiple candidates each year.

Everett and Trudy Suddreth Scholarships of Excellence

  • Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a spouse or dependent of a permanent, full-time employee of a CFIC Retail, Wholesale, or Supplier Member firm OR a student who is at minimum, a part-time CFIC Retail, Wholesale, or Supplier Member Firm.

  • Scholarship Award: $2,500 (non-renewable)

Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarships

  • Eligibility Requirements:  A completed application form answering all questions and a separate listing of extracurricular activities, honors, community or church work, and work experience. They must also include a current photograph, an official transcript (including first semester senior courses and current GPA), a letter of recommendation from the student’s minister, employer, or an adult friend, a letter of recommendation from the student’s high school guidance counselor or one of his/her teachers, and an original responding the the provided prompt.

  • Scholarship Award: $3,000 (non-renewable) and $1,000 (non-renewable) to the runner-up.

Golden Leaf Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes, be a high school senior enrolling full-time as a first-year student or a community college transfer student enrolling for the first time at a participating North Carolina university, be a resident of Dare county, and have financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • Scholarship Award: The scholarship provides $3,000 a year for up to 4 years to high school seniors and $3,000 a year for up to 3 years to community college transfer students.

Jagannathan Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a graduating senior planning to enroll as college freshmen in a full-time degree program at one of the constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina, be a resident of North Carolina for tuition purposes, have demonstrated academic achievement (as indicated by class rank, cumulative GPA, and SAT scores), leadership, and financial need.

  • Scholarship Award: The maximum award is variable, nonrenewable and cannot exceed demonstrated financial need.

  • Deadline: February 1, 2016

 

Latino Diamante Scholarship Fund

  • Eligibility Requirements: Must be Hispanic, plan to enroll at North Carolina institutions of higher education, provide a recommendation from a high school principal, a college counselor or a community leader, present a certified copy of school transcripts with a minimum C+ or 2.5 grade point average, and submit an essay.

  • Scholarship Award: The value and number of scholarships will be determined based on the organization’s fundraising campaign and will be awarded for the 2015-16 academic year. Funds will be used for tuition and educational expenses.

Neyhart Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: The award is available to students with kidney disease, kidney transplant or children of parents with kidney disease or transplant. Priority is given to kidney patients.

  • Scholarship Award: One award is given annually with a $1000 award minimum and a $1250 award maximum.

North Carolina Division of Veteran Affairs Scholarships

  • Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a child of NC war veterans.

  • Scholarship Award: Awards will vary.

North Carolina Education and Training Voucher Program

  • Eligibility Requirements: You must have aged out of the foster care system at age 18 or were adopted from foster care with adoption finalization after your 16th birthday; you must be under 21 years of age, must be accepted into or be enrolled in a degree, certificate, or other accredited program at a college or vocational program and show progress towards that degree or certificate. You must not have personal assets greater than $10,000, must be a US citizen or qualified non-citizen, and be eligible for the NC LINKS program.

  • Scholarship Award: Up to $5,000 per year for tuition, books, or qualified living expenses for up to 4 years.

North Carolina Extension and Community Association Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Priority is given to students interested in pursuing a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. The award will be based on financial need, academic potential, activities and honors, and cooperative extensive service involvement.

  • Scholarship Award: $600 (renewable)

  • Deadline: FEBRUARY 1st

 

North Carolina Hispanic College Fund

  • Eligibility Requirements: Must have graduated from a North Carolina high school within the past two years, must have a four-year cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or a 3.5 on a 5.0 scale, and must be accepted into a 2- or 4-year college or university. Preference is given to full-time students, but part-time students may apply. Preference will be given to foreign-born applicants or native-born children of foreign-born parents.

  • Scholarship Award: Between $500 and $2,500. Scholarship recipients may apply for renewal for up to four years. Scholarships are designated for tuition, fees and room and board.

North Carolina Hospitality Education Foundation Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: High school seniors who plan to enroll or students already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year, college or university, or vocational-technical school in North Carolina, pursuing a course of study in culinary arts, hospitality management or tourism, and be a North Carolina resident.

  • Scholarship Award: Scholarships range from $750 to $1,500 for the year.

North Carolina Reach

  • Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must: Either age out of North Carolina public foster care by age 18-25 or be adopted from North Carolina public foster care on or after the student’s 12th birthday. Enroll at either a state community college or one of the 16 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina system, at least half time, pursuing an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate. Make satisfactory progress toward the completion of undergraduate study. Comply with registration requirements for military service unless they are exempt from registration. Not be in default or owe a refund under any federal or state loan or grant program.

North Carolina Retail Merchants Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be the dependent of an employee of an NCRMA member company OR an employee themselves. They must still be employed by a NCRMA member company at the time winner are selected in May. To verify NCRMA member status, please call (919) 832-0811.

North Carolina Sheriffs Association Undergraduate Criminal Justice Scholarships

  • Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must: Be an undergraduate majoring in criminal justice, one student for each UNC constituent institution that has a criminal justice degree program (see listing below), be a North Carolina resident for tuition purpose, establish financial need, be enrolled full-time.

  • Scholarship Award: $2,000 (non-renewable)

North Carolina Society of Accountants Scholarship Foundation

  • Eligibility Requirements: The applicant must: Be a resident of North Carolina, enroll in an accredited school of higher education in North Carolina, enroll with six (6) or more credits (per semester) in an accounting degree program, and show a firm intention to continue in the field of accounting.

  • Scholarship Award: $500 (non-renewable)

R. Flake Shaw Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: This scholarship is sponsored as an investment in agriculture’s future leadership. Four scholarships are valued at $3,750 and are renewable for students enrolled in agricultural related field. Two $1,000 scholarships are available for students attending a community college.   • Scholarship Award: $3,750 (renewable) for four-year universities, and $1,000 (renewable) for two-year community colleges.

SECU Foundation “People Helping People” Scholarship

  • Eligibility Requirements: Seniors attending one of the 16 campuses of the UNC system are eligible to be considered. One senior from each public high school will receive the scholarship valued at $10,000. Preference will be given to students whose parents or guardians and family members are public sector employees who live and work in North Carolina.

  • Scholarship Award: $10,000
