NC Public Universities Merit Scholarships

Merit Scholarships: Colleges typically award merit scholarships on the basis of exceptional academic, athletic or artistic excellence, in addition to special interests. Some merit scholarships also consider financial need, but rewarding talent is the primary objective.

 

Note: UNC-Chapel Hill is NEEDS BLIND and MEETS ALL DEMONSTRATED FINANCIAL NEED. Even without a special scholarship, they will cover all that you cant!

Chancellor’s Scholars

-Schools of Business, Education, Health Sciences, and Music offer scholarships

 

Diversity Scholarship

-Open to students who demonstrate a commitment to principles of diversity.

-A four-year scholarship in the amount of $2,000 per year.

-Specialized leadership opportunities and individualized attention

 

Wilson Scholars Program

-Full tuition, room, board, books

-An annual $2,500 Experiential scholarship for investment in learning activities such as study abroad, undergraduate research, service-learning trips or internships.

-$10,000/year and a $5,000 study abroad stipend connected to student’s academic interest.  Invitations to apply are sent to eligible students by the Honors College each fall.

 

Music Scholars

-Annual scholarship of $3,000 for up to four years.

-Application for this scholarship is included within the Honors College Scholarship process. (DUE DEC. 15th)

-In state tuition for all four years. Invitations to apply are sent to eligible students by the Honors College each fall.

NC A&T Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholarship

-Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must complete the FAFSA and have a minimum GPA of 3.75 or above and a 1200 or above SAT (Math and Verbal) or 26 ACT.

-Scholarship Award: Covers full tuition, fees, room and board.

-Application Available: October 1, 2015

-Deadline: January 15, 2016

 

NC A&T National Alumni Association Scholarship

-Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must have a 3.0 high school GPA or above, 1000 or above SAT (Math and Verbal) or 22 ACT.

-Scholarship Award: Covers full tuition, fees, board, and books for 4 years as long as recipient meets the yearly requirements.

-Application Available: October 1, 2015

-Deadline: January 15, 2016

North Carolina Central University: BRITE Scholarship

-Eligibility Requirements: High school seniors planning to attend North Carolina Central University who are interested in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biomanufacturing, and Medicinal Science should apply. Scholarships are available to first-time freshmen, community college, transfers with AS degrees or rising Juniors.

-Scholarship Award: Full or partial scholarship to NC Central.

North Carolina Central University Chancellor’s Cycle of Success Scholarship

-Eligibility Requirements: All students who are incoming into NCCU are considered for these scholarships when they apply. The earlier a student applies, the better chance they have to receive these scholarships. Scholarships are awarded until the funds are depleted. See website for specific eligibility requirements.

-Scholarship Award: Up to full tuition.

NCSU Centennial Scholarship

-Eligibility Requirements: Scholarship is offered through the NCSU College of Textiles and is designed to help promote the textile industry. Seniors who meet the entrance criteria for NCSU and are interested in pursuing an education in textiles may apply. There are two nomination spots available for each high school.

-Scholarship Award: From full tuition to 55% of in-state costs, including a $7,500 enrichment fund.

-Deadline: December 1, 2015

 

Park Scholarships

-Eligibility Requirements: Two outstanding seniors from each high school can receive the school nomination for this award. You may still nominate yourself. The scholarship program brings exceptional students to NC State based on outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

-Scholarship Award: Covers costs of tuition, books, room and board, travel and personal expenses, computer stipend, and personal enrichment experiences.

-Deadline: November 1, 2015. Applicant must apply to NC State by the October 15th deadline.

Carolina Covenant (Excellent promise to low-income students!) With the Carolina Covenant, eligible students whose family income falls at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines (about $44,700 for a family of four) can graduate from Carolina without having to borrow a penny – 100% of their demonstrated need is met through grants and federal work study.

 

Morehead-Cain Scholarship

-Eligibility Requirements: Two outstanding seniors from each high school can receive the school nomination for this award. You may still nominate yourself.  The program seeks a student that exhibits scholarship, character, leadership, and physical vigor. Applicants should be competitive applicants to UNC-Chapel Hill.

-Scholarship Award: Covers costs of tuition, fees, room and board, books, laptop, supplies, miscellaneous, plus Discovery Funds to be used for educational opportunities.

Robertson Scholars Leadership Program

-Eligibility Requirements: Separate application from the UNC general application.Scholarship is looking for applicants who display purposeful leadership, intellectual curiosity, strength of character and collaborative spirit.

Scholarship Award: Eight semesters of full tuition, room and board, and mandatory fees for Scholars at Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill. Scholars also have access to funding for up to three summer experiences.

-Deadline: November 13, 2015

 

Thomas Wolfe Scholarship

-Eligibility Requirements: A scholarship for students talented in creative writing. Students must submit samples of their work as part of the scholarship application process and must apply to UNC-CH under Early Admission deadline (10/15/15).

-Scholarship Award: Full-ride scholarship, there is one winner of this scholarship per-year.

-Deadline: Student must apply to UNC-CH under Early Admission deadline, 10/15/15, and submit required application documents postmarked by 11/15/15.

Levine Scholars Program

-Eligibility Requirements: Candidates must be applicants for freshman enrollment at UNC-Charlotte in a baccalaureate program for the fall term following high school graduation. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and should present an excellent academic record, demonstrate a commitment to community service, and possess a capacity for ethical leadership. Alert the counselor if you are interested in this scholarship.

-Scholarship Award: Covers full tuition, room and board, service grant to implement a service project of the scholar’s own design, and four summers of experiences. 15 scholarships will be awarded each year.

-Deadline: November 8, 2015. Applicant must apply to UNC-Charlotte by the November 1st deadline.

UNC-Greensboro Guarantee Scholarships

-Eligibility Requirements: This scholarship helps in-state students graduate from UNC-G in four years with little to no debt. Awarded to graduating high school seniors who apply to and are admitted to UNC-G for fall enrollment. Scholars must: Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes, SAT of 1000 or above (Math and Verbal) or a 21 ACT or above, be pursuing first undergraduate degree, graduated from high school within the past 8 months. Students must apply to UNC- G and must be admitted then also apply for the scholarship.

-Scholarship Award: Helps meet all expenses for in-state students so they can graduate from UNC-G in 4 years with little to no debt. Also provides a support program to encourage academic and personal success.

-Deadline: Applications for Fall 2016 students will be available during Fall 2015 on the UNC-G webpage.
