NC Private University Merit Scholarships

Merit Scholarships: Colleges typically award merit scholarships on the basis of exceptional academic, athletic or artistic excellence, in addition to special interests. Some merit scholarships also consider financial need, but rewarding talent is the primary objective.

You CAN afford to go to private colleges! Although the sticker prices on colleges appear daunting, many institutions offer excellent financial aid packages that make attendance affordable for all students. A lot of the colleges below are seeking to diversify their student bodies financially and geographically, meaning Dare County’s applicants are especially appealing.

Two important terms:

Needs Blind Admission:  A college admissions policy in which applicants are judged solely on their merits, regardless of their ability to pay for tuition.

Meets Full Demonstrated Need: Schools that meet 100 percent of need use a combination of loans, scholarships, grants and work-study to fill the gap between the cost of attendance – tuition, fees, room, board and other expenses – and what a family can pay.

Davidson College and Duke University are NEEDS BLIND AND MEET ALL DEMONSTRATED NEED. Even without a special scholarship, they will cover all that you cant!
